Concern about the spread of Swine Flu H1N1 is increasing within our region. Both government and health officials encourage the public not to panic and use common sense. In view of these admonitions and in response to the concerns registered by laity and clergy, the diocesan Office of Worship has issued the following.

Maintenance Ministry

There are many ways we can serve God through Ministry in the Church.  We are in the process of developing a “Maintenance Ministry” made up of volunteers, both men and women, who can assist in the upkeep of our Parish facilities.  The ministry will provide electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting and just about any other kind of help we need to keep our Parish looking and working well.  To sign up, please fill out the form below and turn it into the Parish office or put it into the Collection. You can also contact Jim Kline at 731-2212 for more information.

*Can you help this child?*

There is an ongoing program called
*Footprints* within St. John’s – Holy Angels parish designed to help children needing companionship and support with an emphasis on Christian values. This program operates in conjunction with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of DE, and is designed to enable each young boy and girl reach his or her maximum potential.

There are /_seventy_/ boys and /_six_/ girls in New Castle County looking for companionship, mentoring, adult friendship to help them will grow in confidence and learn to make wise decisions in their life choices. They will have the chance to be someone special to a loving adult. We call our volunteers ‘Buddies’; BB/BS of DE calls them Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Think in terms of friendship, as that is what the relationship will become.

We need one hour per week to fill this need, doing what you like to do, except you will be involving your particular child. We can have either a man or a couple for the boys. Age is no limit to being a ‘Buddy’ once you have achieved adulthood. Being involved in the program should definitely be an enriching experience for our ‘Buddies’. Quoting Pope John Paul II, “Much to be

envied are those who can give their lives for something greater than themselves in loving service to others.”

If you need more information, please call Cathi Del Vecchio of Big Brothers/Big Sisters at 302-998-3577, or the Parish Office at 731-2200, or Leonard Quinn at 302-709-0103 (home) or 302-224-2901 (work).

As a parish community, we want to help these children. Please help us!
